Brinkman Partners Flats at The Oval mixed-use project near the Colorado State
University campus has won a two-globe rating from the Green Building Initiative.
The project, on the site of a former fraternity house that was vacated in 2006, is now home to
ground-floor retail space and three stories of residential space with 46 apartments at Laurel and
Howe streets.
“Two globes is an excellent accomplishment and Brinkman should be proud of the manner in
which they approached the design and construction of this facility for efficient use of energy and
resources, a healthful environment for residents, and fiscal prudence for the owners and people of
Fort Collins,” said Gary Keclik of Keclik Associates who performed the Green Globes assessment,
in announcing the award. “We have no doubt that the staff and working partners of Brinkman will
continue the dedication to the concept of sustainability through operations, as exhibited by the
dedication to these goals in the cooperative initial design and construction of the facility.”
Brinkman, headquartered in Fort Collins, used low-flow water fixtures, reflective roofing and
recycled construction materials, and donated salvageable materials before demolition, among
other sustainable practices, in building the Flats at the Oval.
